My Story

I was named for the city of Berkeley, California. I was first produced by Stanley G. Thompson, Glenn T. Seaborg, Keneneth Street, Jr. and Albert Ghiroso that worked at the University of California in December , 1949. My creators used cyclotron bombardment of milligram amounts of americium with helium ions. The first visible amounts of myself was of berkelium compound, berkelium chloride in 1962.
