My Nucleus

I have two neutrons and two protons in my nucleus yo.
My atomic weight stands at 4.002. I have two isotope forms; 3He and 4He which are both stable.

My Electrons
2 electrons, no ions, I'm complete and noble! No valence electrons, and my configuration in s2. Two core electrons, zero valence, yo!

My Properties

I am unresponsive, colorless and odorless. I am monotomic and non-metallic, yo! My atomic number is 2, atomic mass 4.002, atomic radii 31, molar volume is 21 cm (cubed) and sound moves at 970 m/s in helium! I am a hexagonal crystal structure and my boiling point and melting point stand at -268 C and -272 C respectively. I am a gas at room temperature.

My Home
(Body, Planet, Universe)

I am the 2nd most abundant element in the universe. However, there is NO HELIUM in the human body. Sadly, I also make only 0.0005% of the Earth. Yet, I am abundant in stars and such, therefore I'm the 2nd most popular. Hah!
I am Element!

My Compounds
(My Friends!)

Sorry, no friends. I'm noble.

My Story

Pierre Janssen, a brilliant Frenchman, discovered me during a solar eclipse on August 18, 1868 at Gunter, India. He saw it in the sun, and realized it was an element not abundant on Earth, and named it after the sun (Helios). William Ramsay isolated me in England on March 26, 1895. Finally, Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, a great Dutch scientist, liquified me in 1908!

My Jobs

I have lots of jobs. Like filling ballons, arc wielding, as protection when dealing with harmful gases, cryogenic applications, for supersonic wind tunnels, as "pretend" atmosphere for divers in training, and pressurizing liquid fuel rockets.
