Strontium is a radioactive isotope and is a common product of nuclear explosions and has a half life of about 29 years. Strontium is deadly because it has a long lifetime and is strongly radioactive and is absorbed by the body where is accumalates in the skeletal system and in the bones of a human body. The 90Sr isotope is present in radioactive fallout and has a half-life of 28.90 years.

My Story
Adair Crawford noticed a new mineral called strontianite in Scotland in 1790. The element, strontium metal, which was isolated by Davy by electrolysis of mixture containing strontium chloride and mercuric oxide. An Englishman named John Dalton allowed himself to explain the results of his new information by assuming that matter is composed of atoms and other combinations of these atoms. This element is named after Strotian, which is a Scottish town.

My Jobs
Strontium is used for:
  • fireworks, red flames, and emergency flares which gives off a crimson color.
  • this is element is a radioactive isotope produced by nuclear fallout. Strontium has the potential use as lightweight nuclear producing electricity.
  • used toproduce glass for color television tubes
  • refining zinc
  • optical materials
  • nuclear batteries in buoys
  • phosphorescent paint
