My Properties

My properties are unknown because few unununium atoms have been created and tested. One would think I would be similar to gold and silver because I am in the same family. One thing that is know about me is that my Roentgenium's most stable isotope, roentgenium-280, has a half-life of about 3.6 seconds. ItI decays into meitnerium-276 through alpha decay

By looking on the graph at the bottom of the table, or this page, you can see the elements above the atomic number 93 or so have very little or none abundance in the earth. this means I am not naturally occurring, but man-made.




I am Element!

I am one of the heaviest elements around, with 111 protons and 161 neutrons i have the atomic weight 272. I am very hard to make because I am so heavy. Scientist have to bombard smaller elements together to form me. I am not tested very much because I am hard to make so no isotopes,compounds,
properties or availability in the universe have been found for me. Scientist guess that i am similar to gold because I am in the same family.

My Story

unununium was discovered by the chemists S. Hofmann, V. Ninov, F. P. Hessberger, P. Armbruster, H. Folger, G. Münzenberg, and others in Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) in Darmstadt, Germany. I was discovered in 1994. To discover me three atoms of an isotope 272 Uuu were produced in reactions between 209Bi targets and 64Ni projectiles. To achieve this, the nickel atoms were accelerated to high energies by the heavy ion accelerator UNILAC at GSI and directed onto a lead target. Wow, that why I am so hard to make.
