I am Uranium!
Uranium has been used for many things. Things such as weapons, armor, and power. Uranium has been used for nuclear power plants since 1957 (Shippingport, PA, US), it serves to strengthen the nuclear energy produced by the plant. Uranium is also used to make nuclear weapons, and other weapons of mass destruction. People have also used uranium composites to create armor for humvees and the like. Uranium looks like so: uranium

My Compounds
(My Friends!)

A complete list of info about the compounds of uranium can be found here: Compound Information.

Fluorine
Chlorine
Bromine
Iodine
Oxygen
Hydrogen

My Story

The German chemist, Martin Heinrich Klaproth, announced the discovery of a new element in 1789. But what he discovered was an oxide of uranium. He found pitchblende. It was not until 1841 that French scientist, Eugene Péligot, isolated the pure element of uranium. Péligot passed chlorine over heated "uranium" and then studied the products of the reaction. He then discovered that what he had used was not really pure uranium but an oxide of uranium. He tried to reduce uranium tetrachloride with potassium in a heated platinum crucible. When the potassium chloride dissolved away, pure uranium was left, therefore isolating it from the pitchblende.
Uranium's first commercial use was in 1850, the uranium was in glass. Albeit it's first use as a weapon of mass destruction was in 1991. It was NOT in World War 2.

My Jobs

Uranium is used mainly as a component to a nuclear weapon. It is also used in nuclear power plants. Uranium is not used commonly by civilians, and is used mainly by the military and industrial power plants.
