The other gas is not oxygen. It is deadly CHLORINE gas.

Anyone repeating this experiment is not electrolyzing just the water. When a halogen salt is used, the current takes the salt apart too. And he might poison himself if he does it on a scale large enough to make hydrogen for energy purposes.

The products of salt water electrolysis are sodium hydroxide (lye), hydrogen gas, and chlorine gas.

Chlorine gas is a deadly poison. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?
